Filmmuseum Berlin is one of six film museums in Germany. It opened in 2000 as part of the Deutsche Kinemathek, the German Film Archive and Museum for Film and Television.

Exhibitions



The Film Museum Berlin permanent exhibition displays exhibits from the entire span of German film history, including the exile of many artists to Hollywood during the Nazi era. The exhibits include posters, photos, film costumes, architectural sketches, and props. A particular focus is the actress Marlene Dietrich compiled from an extensive private collection.

In addition to the permanent exhibition, the film museum exhibitions. During the Berlinale in February a year also exhibitions will be presented by the respective retrospective accompanies the festival. Movie Museum has a library with extensive collections of literature and film journals, including important early magazines like The Cinematograph, the photo-stage and the Film-Kurier. Until it moveed to the film museum, the library belonged to the German Film and Television Academy (dffb).

The museum is a member of the German Kinemathekenverbund.
